Microsoft says Vista SP1 not delayed because of bad drivers
Windows Vista Team Blogger Mike Nash has stated in his blog that dodgy drivers weren’t the reason why SP1’s availability was delayed, while in related news, the two pre-SP1 updates to ensure smooth SP1 installation are now downloading to Vista machines across the world.
When Vista SP1 was sent to RTM back on February 4, 2008, many in the tech industry were amazed that Microsoft was stopping most customers from downloading SP1 until sometime in March, with TechNet and MSDN subscribers particularly upset, given their highly tech-savvy status and ability to fix problems.
At the time, the reason why seemed to be because of dodgy drivers on certain computers supplied by manufacturers, with those drivers causing SP1 grief, but it turns out the drivers were never bad. Instead, SP1’s ‘re-installation’ of those drivers during the update process caused the problem.

We at Big Rock Graphics are waiting with baited breath for Vista’s SP1. While the majority of our systems use a mix of XP Professional and Server editions, and even the odd Linux Ubuntu install, several of our laptops use a variety of Vista installs. These include Vista Home Premium, Vista Business Premium and one that uses the Vista Ultimate edition.
We’ve had some mysterious crashes and Blue-Screen-of-Death’s (BSoD’s) occur since the release and our install of Vista, nothing major, just random and unexpected. Luckily we have learnt to save and backup our projects on a regular basis though.
We can’t wait Microsoft. While Vista looks great, and is even more backwards compatible than XP was, we’re concerned that an Operating System (OS) should have to use such a high number of resources (RAM, CPU, etc) whilst still having that “beta” feeling about it. Would be a nice change to use something stable as XP became with the release of XP SP2.
Bring it on Microsoft! We’re anticipating this highly.
